Empty Calories

HOW TO USE

Speak as Ryan
Speak as Suzy
Ryan: Do you want some chips?

Suzy: No thank you. I'm on a diet, so I am trying to avoid empty calories.

Ryan: What does ‘empty calories' mean?

Suzy: Empty calories are any food that doesn't have many nutrients or things that are good for your body.

Ryan: So, like chips or candy?

Suzy: That's exactly right. Chips and candy are food. They have a lot of calories and sugar, but they don't give you the nutrients, vitamins, or minerals that your body needs.

Ryan: I understand, but it might be hard to avoid those kinds of things because they are usually delicious.

Suzy: You're right. It is not easy, but I am determined to lose weight. So, I'm not going to touch any of that stuff.

Ryan: Good for you.
