Get out of

HOW TO USE

Speak as Suzy
Speak as Stacey
Suzy: Do you want to come to a party with me this Saturday?

Stacey: I wish I could, but I have to go to a charity event that is being run by my sister-in-law.

Suzy: Can you get out of it?

Stacey: I'm not sure. I promised her that I would not only attend but also help her. So, I don't know if I'm going to be able to get out of going.

Suzy: Well, what time does the event finish?

Stacey: I think it finishes around 10.

Suzy: Why don't you just come after the event?

Stacey: I think I'm going to have to help clean up. I might not finish until much later than 10.

Suzy: What if you help before and during the event but try to get out of helping clean up?

Stacey: That might work. I'll talk to my sister-in-law today, and I will let you know soon.
